Abstract

History of Adventism in Trujillo, Peru 1905-1943: challenges of the local culture. In Trujillo, there were pre-Hispanic cultures with religious tendencies that were conquered by the Catholic faith without being eradicated. This indigenous Catholic syncretism, with the passing of time, became so deeply rooted that it seemed impossible to admit any other faith. In this context, at the beginning of the 20th century, the Adventists entered Trujillo bringing the light of the gospel to guide and educate with the Bible. Their ultimate goal was to establish a church. However, Adventist colporteurs, pastors and believers continually faced the challenges of the local culture, but prevailed. After thirty-eight years of hard work, the Adventist church was able to establish itself, with the challenge of spreading the gospel to all of Trujillo
